Our Fabulous Feathery Friends

Did you know that birds need special tools to survive?  The adaptations of their feet, beaks and wings help you to find out where they live and what they eat. Pat and Patti from Cattus Island Park taught us about our feathered friends.  For example, birds that swim have webbed feet, songbirds may use their feet for perching and raptors hunt with their talons.

We each invited a friend to meet with us for this presentation.  We divided into groups and used various utensils to simulate beaks.  We had to pick up different types of "food" and record our findings.  Some of this activity was like trying to eat soup with a fork!  We learned that beaks are very specialized too.
