Meet the Superintendent
Welcome to Berkeley Township School District! We serve preschool through sixth grade students at our four elementary schools; Bayville School, Berkeley Township Elementary School, Clara B. Worth School and H & M Potter School. We will provide every student with a safe, supportive, inclusive and collaborative learning environment. In partnership with families and our community, we will foster innovative thinkers in a diverse and ever changing world.
It is an honor to serve as the superintendent of a school district that excels in progressive educational theory and reform, yet recognizes that each student is an individual. We utilize NWEA Map testing to determine where students’ strengths and weaknesses lie to meet their needs at an individual level and provide instruction in order to increase student growth.
Grades kindergarten through 6 have implemented a new Science series, FOSS, which is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. This series provides a hands-on approach to Science. Students will participate in STEAM activities and lab activities in order to understand and appreciate the scientific enterprise.
The One-to-One Initiative, which provided every first through sixth grade student in our district with a Chromebook, will continue this year. This program has improved student technology skills, provided more research and collaboration opportunities and increased student engagement. This year, students in the lower grades will continue to develop an understanding of programs such as Google docs, sheets and slides, while students in the upper grades will learn to develop research skills. Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to utilize Android Tablets for learning.
We will host the sixth Ocean Ed Tech Expo, where teachers and administrators in Ocean County are provided the opportunity to attend workshops for strategies to implement technology in our classrooms.
Maintaining a safe and secure school environment for our students and staff will remain a number one priority. Thank you to Mayor Carmen Amato, Police Chief Karin DiMichele, and the members of the Berkeley Township Board of Education for their continued commitment to the shared service of providing active police officers in each of our schools. These police officers serve as members of the school security teams, develop positive relationships with the students, and add an additional layer of security for our students and staff.
As a recipient of the Race to the Top Preschool Expansion Grant from the New Jersey Department of Education, our district will offer a full day preschool program to three- and four-year old residents of Berkeley Township.
We encourage parents to become involved in the education of their children. This can be accomplished through frequent communication with the teachers, attendance at Back to School Night, and participation in the Parent Teacher Associations. We greatly appreciate the many activities our PTA members provide for our students.
Thank you to the community at large for your dedication and support of the Berkeley Township School District. Your input is always welcome as we take on the very important task of educating tomorrow’s citizens. Our children are our best resource. We are committed to providing them with an education that addresses their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
Please visit our district website at www.btboe.org and Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Berkeley-Township-School-District-180358508765847/ to see the amazing activities occurring throughout our district. It is also important for all parents and guardians to access the Parent Portal part of the district website. This site provides an opportunity for parents to update contact information, access progress reports and report cards, and set up online payments for cafeteria accounts.
We wish all of our families a happy and healthy 2019-2020 school year.
Every Student, Every Day!
